At Jordex, we recruit driven professionals, who want to build a career within the logistics sector. Meet our new colleague Patrick who has recently moved to the UAE!
- You recently started at Jordex Global after being inducted at the head office in the Netherlands. Can you tell us more about your role within Jordex Global?
First of all I am really excited for this new opportunity. After almost 2 months training in the Netherlands, working and experiencing all departments of Jordex Shipping and Forwarding I moved to the Middle East to work for Jordex Global. The first week I worked from Dubai office as from the second week onwards I will be working in Abu Dhabi. My main tasks will be handling operations for the import and export of Sea – Air – and in-land freight as well as warehousing for clients as an Account Manager.
- Where are you from and what made you decide to move to Abu Dhabi?
I come from Avenhorn, a small village in Noord-Holland, Netherlands where I grew up. Later on when I started studying in University, I also lived abroad for 1 year in Chile , Spain and Thailand. I did my bachelor in International Business and management, which introduced me to many different cultures and experiences which I really like. I like being in an international setting and get to know people from all over the world, as well as helping each other in terms of business. Now I am still young (24 year old), ambitious, and feel that this is the time to do such things.
- What experience do you bring?
I have studied International Business and Management 4 years at the University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam. During the study I did my Minor project for DAF trucks in Thailand, my Exchange in Chile and my Internship in Spain at a relocation company. The bachelor was a broad study in which I learned all business aspects specifically in Supply Chain Management. Therefore, I started working in Logistics after my study. The past three years I have been working for two large transport companies, where I mainly focused on daily operations as well as tactical planning for road transport all through the Netherlands.
- What is the biggest difference between the work culture in the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates?
I think being in an international environment, so dealing with people from different cultures. We have colleagues from different countries as well as clients. When I was working in the Netherlands, I was only working with Dutch colleagues who were all quite the same. Now, in the UAE people have different values and behaviour, which enhances your overall knowledge and behaviour towards others.
- Where do you prefer to be in your free time?
In my free time I like to be with friends and explore new things. For example, going to nice places, events and restaurants. I like to travel also, listen to music (especially Spanish) and play football. Another thing I enjoy doing is watching Netflix.
